(Juneau) – This evening, Governor Dunleavy delivered his annual State of the State address, laying out an ambitious plan to build a stronger Alaska while highlighting recent successes within the state. The Alaska House Republicans support the Governor’s commitment to expanding economic opportunities, improving education, ensuring public safety, and making life more affordable for Alaskan families. We stand ready to work alongside him to turn this vision into action.
The Governor’s remarks highlighted real progress—our population is growing, we’ve added 4,000 more jobs compared to 2019, and in 2024 alone, state revenue assets grew by $600 million. With President Trump’s recent Executive Orders lifting burdensome regulations, Alaska’s resource industries—oil, gas, timber, and coal—are ready to thrive once again. We are committed to ensuring that we seize this momentum, driving billions in revenue, creating thousands of jobs, and enhancing America’s energy and national security. By supporting responsible development in key areas like ANWR, NPR-A, Ambler Road, and the Tongass National Forest, we can secure a prosperous future for generations of Alaskans
A strong economy is only possible with a well-educated workforce. The Governor’s emphasis on educational improvements is a priority we share. The READS Act has already delivered results, but we must do more. Every child deserves access to a quality education, and families should have choices. That means funding schools responsibly while ensuring we put students first. We support policies that expand school choice and empower parents with the options they need to provide the best education possible for their children.
Energy affordability and accessibility must be addressed this session. The House Republican caucus is committed to pursuing policies that keep costs reasonable for families and businesses within the state. By fostering innovation and investment, we can build a stable, affordable energy future while ensuring Alaska remains a leader in domestic production.
While we greatly appreciate the Governor’s vision, we also recognize our responsibility as legislators. The Alaska House Republicans are dedicated to passing a balanced, responsible budget—one that funds education effectively, strengthens public safety, and supports economic growth without burdening future generations. Fiscal discipline must remain a guiding principle as we chart the course for Alaska’s future. We ask our colleagues in the House and Senate to avoid costly new expenditures unless new revenue measures are worked on equally.
Alaska House Republican Caucus Leader Rep. Mia Costello (R-Anchorage) said. “With job growth, increased investments, and expanded resource development, we have a unique chance right now to create a stronger future for all Alaskans. Alaska’s future is bright, and we are committed to ensuring that every opportunity is met with bold leadership and responsible action. We encourage all Alaskans to stay engaged, share their thoughts, and work with us to build a stronger, more prosperous state.”
