JUNEAU- In his first address to a joint session of the Alaska State Legislature as our sole US Congressman, Representative Nick Begich shared a vision of optimism and drive, one that resonates with the members of the Alaska House Republicans.
“Our caucus shares this sentiment of optimism and is excited to work with Congressman Begich’s office to ensure Alaska steps up as a national leader on energy and resource development,” shared Alaska House Republican Leader Mia Costello (R-Anchorage).
Congressman Begich shared an update on his work in Washington D.C., where he has advocated for our state through his work on Native Alaskan rights, natural resource development, infrastructure growth, and returning power from the federal government to the state.
He offered parallels to the national issues at hand and those we face as a state. The Congressman emphasized the importance of the fishing industry and local manufacturing of Alaska’s resources. He talked about the potential of an LNG pipeline having met with leaders in Japan who have a vested interest in Alaska LNG. We were grateful to see responsible spending, energy, and resource development at the center of his remarks.
“The question is not whether or not we can do it,” “stated Congressman Begich. “The question is if we are going to step up to the plate and lead.”
As a freshman legislator, Congressman Begich sits on the House Committee on Natural Resources, the House Committee on Transportation & Infrastructure, and the House Committee on Science, Space, & Technology, as well as eight other subcommittees.
