Today, the Alaska House of Representatives passed House Joint Resolution 18, sponsored by Representative Mia Costello (R-Anchorage), urging the federal government to take all necessary steps to expedite the advancement of the Alaska Liquefied Natural Gas (AKLNG) Project.
“For decades, Alaskans have believed in the promise of North Slope gas, and today, that promise is closer to reality than ever,” said Rep. Costello. “With HJR 18, we recognize the strong support from President Trump and our federal partners, and we support and urge moving forward together in an expedited fashion to make this project a reality.”
HJR 18 acknowledges the unprecedented alignment of federal support, global demand, and in-state momentum behind the AKLNG project. The resolution calls on President Donald J. Trump, Secretary of the Interior Douglas Burgum, and key federal agencies to coordinate, streamline approvals, and fully commit to a federal partnership for the success of this project.
The Alaska LNG Project would deliver natural gas from the North Slope to world markets through a new pipeline and liquefaction facility. It represents one of the most significant economic opportunities in the state’s history, creating thousands of jobs, generating billions in long-term revenue, and boosting American energy security.
“After decades working toward the Alaska LNG Project, the Governor, the President of the United States, our Congressional Delegation, and the State Legislature are now working in unison, which has brought this project closer than ever,” said Representative George Rauscher (R-Sutton).
The resolution also thanks President Trump for his steadfast commitment to Alaska’s energy development, particularly through his Executive Order Unleashing Alaska’s Extraordinary Resource Potential, signed on his first day in office, and his public endorsement of AKLNG during his March 6 address to Congress.
Key Points of HJR 18:
