ALASKA HOUSE MAJORITY SEAL

ANCHORAGE, AK – Representatives George Rauscher, R-Sutton, and Cathy Tilton, R-Wasilla, joined the Alaska Senate today.

The pair brings a combined 18 years of legislative experience to the other chamber. They were sworn in this morning following an appointment by Gov. Mike Dunleavy and a successful Senate Republican confirmation vote.

Tilton is a former House Speaker. Rauscher has held leadership positions on the House Energy and House Resources committees. They replace Senators Shelley Hughes, R-Palmer, and Mike Shower, R-Wasilla, who resigned to pursue statewide office.

House Republicans congratulated Alaska’s two newest state senators:

“Today, the Alaska State Senate swore in two stellar members from the House of Representatives,” said Rep. Delena Johnson, R-Palmer. “They will be missed in the House, but I am excited to work with our two new Mat-Su Valley senators. Congratulations to them both.”

“Alaska’s newest state Senators Cathy Tilton and George Rauscher are proven conservative leaders with a track record of fighting for responsible budgeting, resource development, and the Mat-Su Valley way of life,” said Rep. Elexie Moore, R-Wasilla. “The Senate is gaining two principled voices who understand Alaska’s unique challenges and opportunities. I am proud to have served with them and excited to keep working together for Alaska.”

“Senator Tilton’s years of steady leadership in the House, including her service as Speaker, have shown her deep commitment to responsible governance and the Mat-Su,” said Rep. Kevin McCabe, R-Big Lake. “Senator Rauscher, since first joining the Legislature in 2017, has been a strong advocate for Alaska’s energy future, our resource industries, and the needs of rural communities. I am proud to have worked closely with both of them, and we share the same vision for strengthening the future of our great state of Alaska. The Senate will benefit from their experience, dedication, and principled service.”

“I’m really pleased with today’s confirmation vote,” said Rep. Mia Costello, R-Anchorage. “Senators Tilton and Rauscher are two conservative powerhouses who fought hard for conservative values in the House and will continue fighting for those values in the Senate.”

“Huge congratulations to my colleagues, Senator George Rauscher and Senator Cathy Tilton, on their confirmations to the Alaska State Senate today,” Rep. Jubilee Underwood, R-Wasilla, said. “Their dedication, integrity, and commitment to serving the people of Alaska have always set them apart. I’m proud to stand beside them and excited to see the leadership they’ll continue to bring to our state.”
