MORE ABOUT REP. Garret nelson
A proud product of a multi-generational Idaho ranching family, Garret Nelson’s roots in land management run deep. After graduating from Nampa Christian High School, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science Production, with an emphasis in range management, from the University of Idaho. It was during these collegiate years that he married his wife, Sierra, in 2006. Today they have 9 vibrant, wonderful children whom they homeschool fulltime; Mac, Thor, Abby, Bear, Gyda, Nidas, Millie, Magnus, and Bindi ranging in age from 1 to 17 years old.
Though Garret initially returned to Mackay, Idaho, to manage the family ranch, his career path eventually led him to the Amalgamated Sugar Company in Nampa, where he served as a pipe and boiler welder. In 2015, a sales position with Gravity Payments brought him to Alaska for the first time and the connection was immediate. By 2016, the Nelson family had officially called Sutton home.
Garret’s dedication to his community and representative government is evidenced by his long-standing service on the Sutton Community Council, where he recently served as Chair. In this role, he has been a steadfast advocate for the issues most vital to the district.
A firm believer in the vision of the American Founders, Representative Nelson holds that our representative republic is the finest form of government ever conceived. He views the constitutional mission to form a “more perfect union” not as a finished task, but as a call to constant vigilance and a perpetual, good-faith effort to better the lives of all citizens. He is honored to represent District 29 and looks forward to being a positive participant in the legislature as we continue to create a more perfect state for the generations that will come long after he shuffles off this mortal coil.
